The Shereese Magazine Auctions Handsome Bachelors
Shereese Slate and Antonio Johnson put together an event filled with fun and excitement, inspired by the tall dark and handsome bachelors who were about to be auctioned off. They were all educated career minded men, with a soft side; participating to support a charity. The Bachelor’s Auction benefited The Center for Alcohol and Drug Abuse of Dallas. Many of the bachelors were personal friends of Shereese. They showed her a lot of love, some coming from out of town to participate in the event simply because she asked them to. I can see why. Shereese is a very likeable person, and very respected by her peers. The event was hosted by the “oh so crazy” Gary with the “T” of the Rickey Smiley Morning Show 97.9 The Beat. Let me give you a first hand perspective on the event from the bachelors and the women who were bidding on them! First let’s start off with Antonio of the Shereese Magazine and Gary himself.
Antonio Johnson
DUS: This is a nice event. There are some very eligible bachelors here. You all did a really good job selecting them. What kind of selection process did you use?
Antonio: Well they had to send in an application, or be nominated. We then called them and talked to them. Women like attractive men taking care of business, so that’s what we were looking for.
DUS: Well a lot of women here are impressed with the stature of men that are participating.
Antonio: That’s good. We really did it for the cause. We want to raise money to help the alcohol and drug abuse program.
DUS: How did the event come about?
Antonio: I was just watching one on TV, and started thinking, that we could do something like that. Lots of ladies might like to meet some good guys and some guys might like to meet some good ladies. When it’s all said and done, whether you bid or don’t bid, maybe you made a friend J We have the Shereese.com first year anniversary coming up December 9th. Rockmond Dunbar from “Soul Food” and “Prison Break” will be on the cover of that issue with her. Everyone here tonight gets a free subscription to the Shereese.com magazine.
Gary “with the T” Hayes
DUS: Hey Gary, how did you get involved with the event?
GARY: Actually, Shereese and I met through Antonio. We used to work together. So Shereese asked me to host the event tonight, so I said yeah.
DUS: Is this your first Bachelor’s Auction?
GARY: I’ve never been to one before, so yes this is my first time hosting, and being at one, which is not hard.
DUS: I’m surprised there’s not a lot of women walking around mingling with the guys.
GARY: Actually what we did was, try to have the bachelors upstairs and do a surprise elephant—but some of them came downstairs and are mingling.
DUS: So do you host events often?
GARY: Yes, I do. People ask me and I’ll do it. For a small fee of course – lol
DUS: So maybe we can get you to host one of our “Step One of Dallas” events.
GARY: Yeah Honey, I’ll give you my card. Just call me. In the words of Diana Ross “I’ll be there, just reach out and touch!”
Frank Lawson
DUS: Can you tell me how you became involved with the auction?
Frank: A mutual friend presented it as a nice opportunity.
DUS: What do you do for a living?
Frank: I’m a background singer for Fred Hammond, and a medical school student.
DUS: So are you single or is this just for charity?
Frank: A little bit of both. I think nowadays, single is a broad statement. Until you’re married, there’s always an opportunity :)
Dedrick Knox
DUS: Are you single?
Dedrick Yes, I am. I’m from New Orleans, prior military 12 years of service.
DUS: How did you get involved?
Dedrick: A friend of mine recommended me to Shereese since I’m new to Dallas.
DUS: Well hopefully you’ll make some new friends tonight!
Rome Davis
DUS: Tell us a little bit about yourself
Rome: I’m from Longview TX, a professional model. I did the Jett 2006 Handsome Hunk calendar. I have a degree in social work. I love kids, I’m adopted, so anything to do with helping a charity, I’m with it. I’ve been through the system, so I know how it is.
DUS: So what are you looking for in a girl?
Rome: I’m looking for a woman, not looking for a girl. Looking for somebody that’s mature, independent, without pushing that to the extreme. Somebody that’s gonna be my crutch, that will be there not just mental, but gentle.
Tameka Manning
DUS: How did you find out about the auction?
TAMEKA: I read about it in the Dallas Morning News. I love charities, so I thought it would be a great event to come to.
DUS: Are there any other personal reasons for coming?
TAMEKA: I’m single, just turned 30, so why not?
DUS: Anyone in particular that caught your interest?
TAMEKA: Oh there’s a couple, they have a great selection!
Tawana & Camina
DUS: Are you ladies enjoying yourselves?
Tawana: I’m enjoying the view!
DUS: Have you started meeting the bachelors?
Carmina: We have, and it’s cool because they are all really intellectual guys. I can’t wait for the auction to start.
DUS; So you are definitely going to bid?
Carmina: Oh yes ma’m. We can pay bills later! Ha ha
Tawana: I think it’s a great event to network and meet people, to see and be seen; to have a new experience and help a charity at the same time.
As y'all can tell, everyone had a great time at the event! It also raised a lot of money for the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center of Dallas. Don't worry if you missed out this time, Antonio and Shereese, just might do this event again next year! Peep out the latest info at www.shereese.com Thanks to all of you for your time and interviews. Much love to Shereese and Antonio. You too Gary, it was great meeting you in person!
